The Stephen Foster Handicap is a Grade II race that has been taking place since 1982 at Churchill Downs. It has a prize pool of $500,000 and it is open to horses that are at least three years old. It was a Grade I race for many years before being downgraded to Grade II in 2019. A lot of leading older horses from across the United States will take place in this event. The winner of the Stephen Foster Handicap will gain entry into the Breeders’ Cup Classic, with five winners of the Stephen Foster Handicap going on to win this race also.
